Nicola Freegard has had an extensive background in the the entertainment industry, and offers her services as an independent consultant, bringing artist services, strategic marketing, PR and promotional focus to a variety of artists and creative companies and institutions.
Nicola moved to the United States in the mid 80’s from London where she had started her working career as assistant to jazz legend Ronnie Scott and Pete King (Ronnie Scotts Club, Soho) in the late 1970’s and Israeli poet laureate Nachum Heiman (Logorhythm Studios, Soho).
She began working in Hollywood in music publishing for ATV Music (publishers of the Beatles, The Pretenders, Little Richard and more), and for managers Ned Shankman & Ron De Blasio (X, David Foster, Barry White) which opened the doors to work as an independent music supervisor & coordinator for film, where she worked on 20+ film projects coordinating music scores and licensing songs. She was fortunate to work on both big productions, Academy award winning films and small independent projects, offering a wide scope of variety.
She also had the opportunity to work in art departments on feature films, commercials and music videos, as coordinator, set painter, prop builder , and PA, where she gained great respect for production design and art direction, under the guiding hands of award winning production designer Alex McDowell (Charlie & Chocolate Factory, The Crow, Fight Club) and built organizational skills that would become invaluable to her future work as a designer.
Finding her passion for the environment on the studio back lot, and realizing a strong sense for the need to create more sustainable processes within the media industries, she launched her business interest through ecotextiles and product development, and so her first design project was started in 1995, providing clients such as Ralph Lauren with handwoven hemp blankets from Nepal, or shawls made from “cruelty free silks” from Tibet and furnishing boutique hotels nationwide with her vision of a sustainable future.
In 2002 she went on to create and design the highly successful recycling company Vy&Elle – a purveyor of handbags and accessories made from recycled vinyl billboards, and sold to over 2000 stores around the world as well as offering companies the opportunity to upcycle their waste into promotional or retail products (Coca Cola, Toyota, Sundance Film Festival, National Geographic and many more) for special events and marketing opportunities. During this project she recycled over 250 tons of vinyl billboard into second generation products.
In 2009 she launched her consultancy company Compound Management/Nicola Freegard Studios. Compound began as an umbrella company to assist musician/artist Howe Gelb in his career endeavors through marketing and strategic PR. Since it’s inception she has worked with over 20 clients assisting through design, marketing and public relations strategies, utilizing her knowledge of brand building and promotion.
With extensive industry know how in running successful creative projects and business – Nicola has built a wide network of marketing and promotional resources both nationally and worldwide, and a thorough understanding of what it takes in growing seedling companies and artists into recognizable names.
